9 Inspiring Quotes About Leaving a Legacy
Published July 24, 2020
Death is definitely a strange topic. On the one hand, it strikes fear and despair into people’s hearts, thinking about their eventual end. But at the same time, death gives meaning to one’s life. The paramount reason we dream and strive for things is that we know it’s all going to end for us one day.
I don’t know about you, but I live with this particular fear of being insignificant. There’s just some lingering worry that when I die, I won’t leave anything important behind for those who follow me. When I lose sight of what’s important and why I put in the work, I like to reflect on these quotes.
“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” – Warren Buffett
Warren Buffett is a particularly big inspiration in my life. His tenacity and drive, coupled with intuitive business decisions, allowed him to become one of the world’s great philanthropists. This quote reflects how his sacrifices in the past paved the way for his bountiful future.
“Life is about making an impact, not making an income.” – Kevin Kruse
This quote is especially relevant in the world we live in today. Many of us live our lives trying too hard to get rich that we forget about the things that matter. No amount of riches will follow us to the grave, but the impact we leave on others will remain long after.
“I am convinced that the greatest legacy we can leave our children are happy memories: those precious moments so much like pebbles on the beach that are plucked from the white sand and placed in tiny boxes that lay undisturbed on tall shelves until one day they spill out and time repeats itself, with joy and sweet sadness, in the child now an adult.” – Og Mandino
This quote means a lot to parents or, like me, want to be parents someday. It’s not always about being someone powerful and influential. Sometimes, you just have to be present and be a positive force to everyone.
“I think the whole world is dying to hear someone say, ‘I love you.’ I think that if I can leave the legacy of love and passion in the world, then I think I’ve done my job in a world that’s getting colder and colder by the day.” – Lionel Richie
The world we live in now could use a lot more love; not more needs to be said about this quote.
“That is your legacy on this Earth when you leave this Earth: how many hearts you touched.” – Patti Davis
Live a life being a blessing, not a plague, to others.
“What you do today will be part of your history tomorrow. What legacy are you creating?” – Marge Castillon Di Blasio
Everything you do and say shapes your legacy. Be mindful of your actions because their effects reach far beyond what the eye can see.
“My teaching is my legacy.” – Anderson Silva
Anderson Silva is heavily considered as the greatest MMA fighter of all time. And yet, he believes his teachings to the younger generation, not his numerous championships, will be his greatest legacy.
“The most important legacy you will ever leave is your vision planted in the minds of your disciples and a passion as strong as a storm in their hearts.” – Shannon L. Alder
Be the reason someone believed they could.
“It’s (life) the one thing you can control. You are responsible for how people remember you- or don’t. So don’t take it lightly.” – Kobe Bryant
The late, great Kobe Bryant undoubtedly left his impact on all of us, basketball fans, or not. He imparted beautiful lessons of hard work and determination, as he worked day in and day out to perfect his craft. What you do today will or will not echo through time, that is ultimately up to you.
Live your life, embracing that it will end someday. And at the end of the day, you can either smile or regret that it ended the way it did; you decide.
